What is PLA?

These are the (Spanish) initials used to identify Antiobiotic-free swine production, from weaning to slaughter.

What does it consist of?

It means breeding pigs in the best animal welfare conditions so that, from the time they are weaned from their mothers, they do not require the use of any antibiotic. This breeding is done on farms that meet the most demanding biosafety and control measures. The animals are also handled and looked after by highly qualified personnel, trained in responsible breeding, who are motivated and committed to the quality concept in the entire growth process. The result of all of this is that no antibiotics are administered to these pigs.

This achievement is the result of research and considerable investments by the Tervalis Group, both in means and in personnel, to be able to maintain the pigs in ideal health conditions.

The farms where this breeding is carried out are located in places where there is no swine concentration. It is a unique, extensive and natural territory, where the population density is 9.2 inhabitants per km2, 30% is woodland, another 30% cropland, 20% hills and meadows, and only 10% inhabited areas. This makes it a real paradise for breeding the best PLA stock, at the same time as it represents a commitment to the development of disadvantaged areas such as the province of Teruel.
